Normal isn’t the same as optimal.

Testing exists to answer questions, not to fill a folder. Here is how we think about it — and the panels we most often use.

Testing philosophy

Reference ranges describe a population. You are a person.

A standard lab range is built from the people who happened to get tested at that lab — many of whom were unwell. It is designed to catch disease, and it does that job reasonably well. It was never designed to describe what thriving looks like.

Which is why “your labs are normal” and “I feel terrible” are so often both true at once. The useful questions are different ones: where does this value sit within the range, how has it moved over time, and what are the surrounding markers doing?

We also believe in testing with intent. Every panel we order should change something — a decision, a dose, a direction. If a test can’t do that, we don’t run it.

Trends and relationships between markers tell us more than any single flagged value.

How it works

Labs, without the errands

Most blood work happens at a Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp patient service center near you — usually within a short drive, often with same-week availability. We send the order electronically; you show up, and results route back to us directly.

For specialty functional testing — stool, saliva, dried blood spot, or urine panels — a kit ships to your home with clear instructions and a prepaid return label. Some patients prefer a mobile phlebotomist at home, which we can arrange in many areas.

Questions

Lab testing, answered

How do labs work if the clinic is virtual?

We place the order electronically. You choose a draw site near you, or we ship a collection kit to your home. Results come back to us, and we review them together on a video visit — never by a one-line message telling you everything looked fine.

Who draws my blood?

A phlebotomist at a Quest Diagnostics or Labcorp patient service center — both have thousands of locations nationwide, so there is usually one within a short drive. In many areas we can also arrange a mobile phlebotomist to come to your home. Functional kits that use saliva, stool, urine, or a finger-stick blood spot are collected by you, with step-by-step instructions.

Can I use my insurance for labs?

Our default is transparent self-pay pricing — the price on each panel is what you pay, with no surprise bills weeks later. Because our panels run through Quest and Labcorp, insurance billing is available on request for many conventional blood panels if you would prefer to use your benefits; we’ll confirm what your plan covers before anything is ordered. Specialty functional testing (stool, saliva, urine, dried blood spot) is self-pay. All panels are HSA/FSA eligible, and we provide an itemized receipt on request. Uninsured and self-pay clients have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges.

Can you use labs I’ve already had done?

Yes, and please send them. Recent results save money and give us trend data, which is often more useful than a single new snapshot. We’ll tell you what still needs to be added.

How often will I be retested?

It depends on what we’re treating. Hormone therapy and thyroid changes are typically rechecked in 6–12 weeks; broader panels are usually revisited every 6–12 months. Retesting is scheduled as part of your plan, not left to chance.

Do I need to fast?

For most panels, yes — a 9 to 12 hour fast with water allowed. You’ll get specific instructions with your order, including timing guidance for cycle-dependent hormone testing.
